Saturday: 'Bike 4 Breath' ride stages at M-A High

Local nonprofit Breathe California is hosting the 24th annual Bike 4 Breath charity ride on Saturday, July 11, from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The ride starts and stops at Menlo-Atherton High School.

The event is designed to promote lung health, fight lung disease and support clean air policies in the Bay Area, said Alexandra Elliott, Breathe California events manager.

Cyclists who participate in the event raise funds for lung disease research, asthma education and clean air advocacy, she said.

The event has three route options: a 10-mile family-friendly route, a 30-mile intermediate route, and a 64-mile advanced route.

There will be free bike inspections, rest stops with food and drinks, and other support along the routes. Back at M-A, there will be a kids' zone, music, food, prizes, a health expo and massages.

Bike 4 Breath aims to raise $150,000 with the ride, which still needs more volunteers.
