Portola Road reopened after crews stopped a gas leak Friday afternoon in Woodside that had residents restricted to their homes for safety, according to PG&E and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
A resident had been digging in the area and broke a 1-and-one-quarter inch plastic gas line, officials said.
Sheriff's Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt said the Sheriff's Office received the first call of the leak at 1:38 p.m.
A shelter-in-place order was issued shortly after the report and lifted at 4:06 p.m., Rosenblatt said.
Portola Road between Tadin Lane and Old La Honda Road was closed at about 2:50 p.m. and reopened at 4:06 p.m., Rosenblatt said.
The leak injured no one but affected three customers, PG&E spokesman Nick Smith said.
Smith suggests that residents or workers who are planning to dig call 811 beforehand to locate gas lines and prevent leaks.
