Portola Valley home burglarized while woman inside was resting

Sheriff's Office investigators are looking for a brazen burglar or burglars who stole artwork and cash from a Portola Valley home yesterday afternoon (Aug. 12) while a resident rested inside.

The thief entered the home in the 500 block of Westridge Drive through an unlocked sliding glass door on the side of the house between 3 and 4:10 p.m., undetected by the woman who was at home at the time, according to a news release from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

The unknown culprit searched various rooms, stealing two pieces of artwork and an unknown amount of cash, the Sheriff's Office reported.

The woman didn't hear or see anything until she woke up and noticed that one or more people had rummaged through her belongings, Sheriff's Detective Sal Zuno said.

The burglary was reported at about 4:41 p.m. The investigation continues, and the Sheriff's Office asks that anyone with information about the incident contact Detective Lisandro Lopez at 363-4055 or lxlopez@smcgov.org; or Detective Hector Acosta at 363-4064 or hacosta@smcgov.org.

Those wishing to provide information anonymously may call the tip line at 1-800-547-2700.
