Today: Kiwanis Club talk on combating homelessness

 

Brock Burrell, business outreach specialist for the organization, Downtown Streets Team, will give a talk in Menlo Park on Tuesday, Aug. 18, on how his agency combats homelessness.

The talk will be at the meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Menlo Park, which meets each Tuesday from noon to 1:15 p.m. at Allied Arts Guild, 75 Arbor Road in Menlo Park.

On Tuesday, Aug. 25, Lucy Wicks, associate director of community relations at Stanford University, will give a talk on "The Planned Stanford Plaza at 500 El Camino Real" in Menlo Park.

On Saturday, Aug. 22, the club will host a fundraiser called "Summer Evening of Art, Wine & Music" at a private residence in Atherton. The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $40. Proceeds from ticket sales and a percentage of art sales benefit local programs and organizations. Call (650) 324-1868 to register.

Last year the Menlo Park Kiwanis Club gave $90,000 in support of community service projects and scholarships for Menlo-Atherton High School graduates.
