The Menlo College men's soccer team played like it was on familiar turf, beating Whittier, 5-0, in a nonconference game played at De Anza College in Cupertino on Tuesday.

The match was played at a neutral site, as the Oaks' home field on campus is undergoing a face lift.

Luis Nunez scored twice and added an assist as Menlo (3-1) recorded its third shutout of the season. The Oaks needed eight games to record three wins (and three shutouts) last year.

Ryan Onizuka added a pair of assists for the Oaks, who visit Simpson College for a 2 p.m. match on Friday.

Menlo held a 14-5 advantage in shots, including 11-2 on goal, and a 5-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Issac Miselewicz, Gera Jimenez and Robert Cowan also scored, while senior Connor Buckley had an assist.

Menlo suffered a 3-2 setback to Eastern Oregon in a nonconference match Tuesday at De Anza College.

The Mountaineers scored in the 89th minute, handing the Oaks (0-1-2) the frustrating loss.

Menlo has a game scheduled with Corban on Friday at 3 p.m., though the location is to be determined.

Danielle Robinson, with an assist from senior Maddie Napier, tied the match and junior Ashleigh Nelin netted a free kick to put the Oaks ahead, 2-1, at halftime.
