Tonight: Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer speaks at 'Rotary Connects' event

Stanford women's basketball coach to talk on 'Building a Winning Team'

Stanford University women's basketball coach Tara VanDerveer of Menlo Park will speak about "Building a Winning Team" at the Rotary Club of Menlo Park's next "Rotary Connects" community event Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Galata Bistro, 827 Santa Cruz Ave. in Menlo Park.

The Rotary Club of Menlo Park holds "Rotary Connects" events twice a year with the aim of connecting with community, business and government leaders, according to Rotarian Alexander Olson. "Through our friendly and sociable events and by working together in partnership, we better serve the community, building bridges to opportunity and progress for everyone," Mr. Olson said.

Ms. VanDerveer led the Stanford Cardinal team to two NCAA Women's Division I basketball championships in 1990 and 1992 and was the U.S. national team head coach at the 1996 Olympic Games. She is also one of only six NCAA women's basketball coaches to win more than 900 games. Ms. VanDerveer is the 1990 Naismith National Coach of the Year and a 10-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year.

Local residents may attend the event. Admission is $30, which includes appetizers, wine, and nonalcoholic beverages. Because space is limited, guests must RSVP to Yuhui Chen at yuhuifitness@gmail.com.
