Two Menlo Park residents named to new Veterans Commission

 

Two Menlo Park residents, Paul "Hank" Scherf and Sherry Corcoran, are members of the new San Mateo County Veterans Commission.

Mr. Scherf is a retired U.S. Navy captain with 30 years of service. Ms. Corcoran is a retired Marine Corps Iraq war veteran with five years of service.

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors increased the size of the commission from nine to 11 members in light of the number and quality of applicants, according to Supervisor Warren Slocum.

The commission will work to increase access to critical services, especially for underserved senior and women veterans. It will also be a platform for addressing the needs of low-income and homeless veterans for housing and other services.

The commission will work with the county's Veterans Services Office, which helps veterans with claims and referrals.
