Food donations will pay your library fines

Those with overdue books or DVDs may clear their fines by donating boxed or canned food during the San Mateo County Library's Food for Fines program, which runs through Dec. 21.

In addition to the 12 libraries in the county system (including the Portola Valley and Atherton libraries), these city libraries are taking part: Redwood City, Burlingame, Daly City, San Mateo and South San Francisco.

All collected food is donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank. Last year more than 36,000 pounds of food was collected, feeding 1,400 families for a week.
