Story by Carolyn Hooper, InnVision Shelter Network.
Genevieve and her young son, Adrian, became homeless when a sudden and significant rent increase made it impossible for her to afford her apartment.
At the critical turning point, Genevieve found the courage within herself to ask for help. Fortunately, she was referred to InnVision Shelter Network, where she and her son worked hard to get back on their feet.
Her case manager, Karin, both inspired and guided her family every step of the way. Genevieve continued to go to school to obtain her A.S. degree in automotive technology from Skyline College while saving money. She learned how to improve her interview skills, and how to network within her community to find stable housing that she could afford.
Her son needed extra support for ADHD. InnVision Shelter Network provided intensive and specific support for Genevieve and her son, connecting them to resources and providing therapeutic children's services that allowed Adrian to thrive in preschool.
With her son in good hands, Genevieve was able to focus on setting and reaching her own goals in order to become self-sufficient. She worked tirelessly, and it paid off.
Genevieve recently accepted a second, higher paying, position as an administrative assistant at Granada Community Services District. Adrian successfully started first grade this fall.
Best of all, she and Adrian moved into a one-bedroom apartment in Daly City where they are thriving!
InnVision Shelter Network is committed to ending the cycle of homelessness for families and individuals in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Our mission is to provide interim housing and supportive services that create opportunities for homeless families and individuals to rapidly return to stable housing and long-term self-sufficiency.
