Saturday: Family geocaching event

Young outdoor treasure hunters are invited to attend a hike and introductory geocaching event for families Saturday, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Los Trancos Preserve, hosted by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District.

Geocaching is a "real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location," according to Geocaching.com.

Participants should be prepared to hike up to three miles, including some off-trail terrain. Long pants are recommended. They are also welcome to bring small trinkets to exchange at the caches.

Registration is required and spots are limited. Visit the event page for more information and to register.
