Authors luncheon raises $356,000

 

The Abilities United Authors Luncheon, held recently at the Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel in Palo Alto, raised a record-breaking $356,000, according to spokeswoman Wendy Kuehn. The prior record was $340,000, raised in 2014.

Retired television reporter Rita Williams of Portola Valley was master of ceremonies for the luncheon, which featured authors Ashlee Vance, Annie Barrows, Thomas Mallon and Pam Munoz Ryan.

The funds raised will be used to provide services to people with developmental and physical challenges, organizers said. Since its inception in 1992, the literary event has raised more than $3 million.
