Police calls: Burglaries, thefts in Menlo Park, Atherton, Portola Valley



Residential burglaries:

■ A burglar cut through a screen in a rear window to enter a home on Windermere Avenue and steal cash and jewelry. Estimated loss: $7,360. Jan. 27.

■ Someone entered a home under construction on Berkeley Avenue and stole bathroom fixtures, including a faucet and a showerhead. Estimated loss: $2,670. Jan. 27.


■ A thief entered a home on Central Avenue and stole a wooden bookshelf and 20 antiquarian books, and a cupboard containing some 200 compact disks, 100 records, two bottles of whiskey, a key fob, 10 cookbooks, silver dollars and a 1-ounce bar of silver. Estimated loss: $19,730. Jan. 26.

■ Someone stole a diamond pendant necklace from a home on Trinity Drive. Estimated loss: $11,000. Jan. 26.

■ Three rings an engagement ring, wedding ring and anniversary ring were stolen from a home on Sharon Park Drive. No sign of forced entry. Estimated loss: $5,000. Jan. 28.

■ A thief stole autographs from baseball and football athletes from a home on Carlton Avenue. No estimate on losses. Jan. 26.

■ Someone entered an unlocked vehicle in the 2100 block of Santa Cruz Avenue and stole $5 in cash, a garage opener, a key and sunglasses. Estimated loss: $146. Jan. 27.

■ A woman left her wallet on the counter at Cafe Borrone on El Camino Real and returned to find that it had been stolen. Inside were cash, her driver's license and credit cards. Estimated loss: $90. Jan. 27.

Auto burglaries:

■ The owner of a vehicle parked at the end of Marsh Road near Bedwell Bayfront Park returned to her vehicle to find a window smashed and her purse, checkbook, papers, laptop computer and tablet computer stolen. Estimated loss: $2,600. Jan. 26.

■ Someone broke a window on a vehicle parked in the 2800 block of Sand Hill Road and stole sunglasses, a Mont Blanc pen and a business-card holder. Estimated loss: $700. Jan. 28.

■ A backpack containing school books was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 2800 block of Sand Hill Road. Estimated loss: $200. Jan. 25.

Stolen Vehicle: A silver 2010 Acura MDX from a driveway in the 2100 block of Sand Hill Road. Jan. 27.

Accidents with injuries:

■ A woman suffered abrasions to her shoulder and upper back in a solo vehicle accident on eastbound Sand Hill Road at Saga Lane when she ran over a rock on her bike, lost control and fell to the ground. Medics took her to the hospital for further treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Jan. 26.

■ A woman riding a bicycle north on University Drive was struck from behind by a 2007 silver Acura MDX as she was preparing to turn left on to westbound Roble Avenue. That section of University Drive does not have bike lanes, but the road is marked indicating lanes to be shared between bikes and vehicles. The cyclist suffered minor injuries and refused treatment. Jan. 26.



■ A thief stole a backpack containing a laptop computer and accessories that had been left in the boys locker room at Sacred Heart School on Valparaiso Avenue. Estimated loss: $1,350. Jan. 26.

■ Someone cut a cable securing a white Dawes Lightning bike to a rack at Menlo-Atherton High School at 555 Middlefield Road and stole the bike. Estimated loss: $500. Jan. 26.

■ An unlocked chrome fixed-gear Fixie Big Shot bicycle with gold rims was stolen from Greenoaks Drive. Estimated loss: $450. Jan. 28.


Theft: Someone cut a padlock on an external storage container and stole two TV sets from a home in the 200 block of Leland Avenue. Estimated loss: $2,000. Jan. 20.


Residential burglary: Someone smashed the glass on a door of a home in the 200 block of Portola Road and entered a guest bedroom, but it is not clear whether anything was taken. Jan. 21.
