Thursday: Grand opening of homeless vets' housing in Menlo Park

 

A grand opening event for a 60-unit housing complex for homeless and at-risk veterans will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Menlo Park Veterans Affairs campus at 605 Willow Road.

The complex has primarily one bedroom and studio apartments priced between $554 and $792 per month, or about 30 percent of tenants' income, on one-year leases. The facility has a community room, fitness gym, laundry facilities, an outdoor barbeque area and computer services.

The project broke ground a little over a year ago, and the building's construction was completed in November 2015.

Scheduled to attend the event are U.S. Representatives Zoe Lofgren and Mike Honda, Menlo Park Mayor Rich Cline, Palo Alto VA Director Lisa Freeman, The Core Companies Vice President Chris Neale and EAH Housing Executive Director Mary Murtagh.

The Marine Color Guard will present the colors and the Palo Alto VA band will perform the national anthem. Facility tours will follow.

The VA noted that the event coincides with this week's national salute to veteran patients.
