Menlo Park: Facebook celebrates its 12th birthday

To celebrate Facebook's 12th birthday recently, the company invited to the company's headquarters in Menlo Park 18 people from around the world to share their stories of Facebook-facilitated friendships and partnerships.

According to Facebook spokeswoman Anna Richardson White, one couple who had met over Facebook brought their 2-month-old infant to the Feb. 4 event. Others came from a Facebook group called GirlCrew, which was started by a young woman in Dublin, Ireland, who was looking for female friends.

The Facebook users in attendance hailed from Saudi Arabia, Hungary, Louisiana, Oklahoma and other locations, she said.

"You guys inspire us and it's invigorating," said Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook's chief operating officer, to the event's attendees.

Online, Facebook also launched personalized friendship-themed videos and Friends Day sticker packs for its users.
