Saturday: Portola Valley workshop on water-efficient landscaping

Using irrigation water efficiently will be the topic for a free three-hour workshop, organized by the California Water Service company and starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Community Hall in Portola Valley at 765 Portola Road.

The workshop is intended to provide guidelines for matters such as picking plants for gardens, using rainwater and managing irrigation systems. More than half of residential water is used on landscaping, according to a workshop announcement.

Partners with Cal Water in sponsoring this California Friendly Landscapes Workshop include the state Department of Water Resources, the Green Gardens Group and the town of Portola Valley.

To register, send an email to conservation@calwater.com or call (650) 558-7859. When registering, include the class date (Feb. 20) and the town (Portola Valley).
