Atherton: Burglary on Burns Avenue Wednesday

Someone entered after smashing rear door window, police say

Atherton police say that items were taken in what residents of the 100 block of Burns Avenue in Atherton at first thought was just an attempted burglary on Wednesday, Feb. 24.

The incident occurred sometime between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m., police said. They reported someone entered the home after smashing the window on a rear door. Although the door had a deadbolt lock, and at first the residents thought no one had entered the residence, Atherton police say that electronics, jewelry, a purse, camera and silver flatware were later reported missing.

Many burglaries occur during the day when homes are empty, police said. Residents are urged to report suspicious vehicles and people in their neighborhoods and to consider using an alarm system.

Anyone with information about Wednesday's burglary is asked to call the Atherton Police Department at (650) 688-6500.
