Menlo Park man with 5-year-old child arrested on gun, drug sales charges

A traffic stop of a vehicle with a Menlo Park man and his 5-year-old child inside led to the man's arrest Feb. 25 on suspicion of possessing drugs with the intent to sell, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and child endangerment.

Jameel Collins, 36, was in possession of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana and prescription painkillers, all packaged for sale, police said.

Detectives from the Menlo Park Police Department Narcotics Enforcement Team said they also found a concealed firearm and a digital scale during the stop, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the area of Clarke Avenue and Bay Road in East Palo Alto.

Mr. Collins' 5-year-old child was within reach of the marijuana, police said.
