Tonight in Portola Valley: Talk on how to improve skills in observing nature

The many wooded areas of Portola Valley offer plenty of opportunity for an exploration of nature. Naturalist and illustrator John Muir Laws will be speaking Tuesday night, March 8, at the town's Community Hall (765 Portola Road) on how to improve one's observation and scientific investigation skills.

A reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres is set for 7 p.m., and the talk and a Q-and-A session for 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Muir Laws will discuss developments in neuro-psychology that "have opened doors in our understanding of the brain and cognition and how you can train yourself to see more and to be more curious about what you discover," according to the announcement.

The town's Cultural Arts Committee is sponsoring the talk.
