Wednesday: Hillary Clinton speaks at Stanford, visits Atherton

Presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will speak at Stanford University Wednesday morning on counter-terrorism, in the wake of the deadly bombings in Belgium on Tuesday.

Ms. Clinton is due to appear in Atherton at a political fundraiser luncheon at the home of SolarCity's chief executive officer, Lyndon Rive, later in the day.

Ms. Clinton's speech is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. at the Bechtel Conference Center at Encina Hall, 616 Serra Mall, according to her campaign.

In her address, Ms. Clinton will urge solidarity with Europe to defeat the Islamic State group, according to her campaign. The speech comes after dozens of people were reported killed and hundreds injured Tuesday in bombings at an airport and transit station in and near Brussels.

"These terrorists seek to undermine the democratic values that are the foundation of our allegiance and our way of life, but they will never succeed," Ms. Clinton said Tuesday in a statement. "Today's attacks will only strengthen our resolve to stand together as allies and defeat terrorism and radical jihadism around the world."

The hosts of Ms. Clinton's visit to Atherton are using the town's new special events permit ordinance, which will require them to pay for any special police or other services, such as traffic diversions. City Manager George Rodericks said the event sponsors had requested only one police officer to coordinate with the Secret Service.

For a similar fundraising event visit by President Barack Obama in February the hosts were recently billed $5,909.79, Mr. Rodericks said.

"Blah blah blah."

I hope Mrs. Clinton will acknowledge her own role in the continued rise of terrorism in the Middle East and North Africe. She was, after all, Secy of State when the Obama administration decided to pull out all forces in Iraq -- thus allowing ISIS an opportunity to fill the vacuum.

Also, her enthusiasm for toppling the Libyan government has led to a failed state there now -- and again allowing ISIS to move in and gain adherents.

Nice job, Hillary!

Hillary was The Decider on invading Iraq?!?!? Who knew? Wow - the things you can learn from Rush Limpbauh!

;)

re: pulling US troops out of harms way in Iraq (where Bush got 5,000 US troops KIA), it was Bush, not Obama that signed the SOFA to withdrawal.

BUSH announced it at the press conference where a shoe was tossed at him.

Oh look, here it is on GEORGE BUSH'S OWN WEBSITE! Web Link

Hillary Clinton is a disaster!. Bush was wrong for invading Iraq because the United States had two enemies who previously were preoccupied with each other and then turned their attention towards the United States. Bush did not learn from history. Marshall Tito ruled Yugoslavia with an iron fist. He was a communist but he kept his population from killing each other. Tito died but the lesson learned for his rule is that you don't overthrow dictators if you don't have a follow up plan to keep the peace.

So what does Ms. Clinton do. She repeats the same blunder George Bush made by deposing Qaddafi. Qadaffi already gave up his weapons of mass destruction and was keeping his country stable. And by that I mean it was not a platform for exporting terrorism. He kept a tight lid. Then she gloats over his death bty saying “We came, we saw, he died.” And she laughs about it. Unfortunately he was not the only person that died. By overthrowing Qadaffi, she set the stage for the murders of our U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens and 3 other brave patriots. The blood is on her hands. Then she lies to the citizens of the United States and the families of the people murdered by blaming it on a video raahter than assuming responsibility for her feckless foreign policy.

Hillary Clinton, during her tenure as Secretary of State, exacerbated Terrorism, anarchy and chaos in the Middle East. Then to compound her error she meets with Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood is a terrorist organization dedicated to the destruction of Israel.

Remember when Ms. Clinton was First Lady and she kissed Suha Arafat to show her solidarity with the PLO? Hillary Clinton is a Foreign Policy disaster. Everywhere she goes terrorism is on the increase along with attendant deaths. Now the ISIS JV is the first team. ISIS got its legs when Ms. Clinton was Secretary of State. The World is a much less safer place do to her foreign policy blunders and miscalculations in the Middle East.

If I were her I wouldn't be talking about foreign policy experience because the only experience she has is that of a wrecking ball.

Wow. The Horrors! That kiss must have been the direct cause for 9/11 a year later.

She should have kissed and held hands with the guy who had 15 of the 9/11 terrorists Web Link

Worked for Bush. Nice lip-smack there, Dubya - hope Abdullah's beard didn't make you itch.

Quite stunning that, with all the terrible foreign policy decisions by American leaders in our lifetime, the best these haters can come up with is a kiss and then lying about Iraq.

You're in for a long eight years. I suggest valium. Or you can follow the lead of Rush Limpbauh and go straight to opiates. Web Link

We need bold initiatives for world order.

- Israel Iran need to be adults and work on their peace process
- Iraq, Iran and Arabs including Syria need to work on peace
- North Korea and South Korea need to work on peace

Hillary has her plate full. We need a very capable secretary of state. Who could that be? A Joe Biden like? Who?

Pretty funny how the fringe reaches on Clinton, while sitting GOP politicians bemoan the insanity in their own party.

Hillary is running on equal rights for woman,

I would like to hear her condemn the way women are treated in the middle East,

Sharia Law, Honor killings, Gays being condemned to death.

Accepting donations to the Clinton Foundation,

You can't have it both ways,
Her silence is deafening.

Hillary Rodham Clinton was the first Secretary of State to declare the subjugation of women worldwide a serious threat to U.S. national security. Known as the Hillary Doctrine, her stance was the impetus behind the 2010 Quadrennial Diplomatic and Development Review of U.S. foreign policy, formally committing America to the proposition that the empowerment of women is a stabilizing force for domestic and international peace.

Compare Clinton to:

- Cruz: no reproductive healthcare even in case of rape and incest

Real world: guess what, girl? You get to carry your rapists' baby!

How can any sane person compare Clinton to Cruz or Trump on THIS issue?

Too much Fox.

Anyone voting on gender equality clearly votes Clinton or Sanders.

I obviously will not address trumps misogyny.

From WaPo today:
Donald Trump’s ignorance of government policy, both foreign and domestic, is breathtaking. The Republican Party is likely to nominate for president a man who appears to know next to nothing about the issues that would confront him in the job.

Such a sweeping condemnation may sound unfair. I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump were already busy tweeting that I’m a “dummy” or something. But if you read the transcript of Trump’s hour-long meeting with the editorial board of The Post, which took place Monday, I don’t see how you can come to any other conclusion.

If you want to move goalposts to "domestic and international peace".... okay, I'm good.

I'll take Hillary’s acheivements and skills over Condi Rice, Cheney or Bush. I loved Powell until he lied to the UN about WMD.

Your turn: I asked someone to name a Republican thats better on gender equality....

Tris Amigo, I am not comparing Mrs. Clinton to any Republican or Democrat. I am merely commenting on the issues that threaten our nation: the lack of Domestic and International peace. We are in more danger today than we have ever been. Proclaiming a Doctrine has not brought us peace either domestically or internationally. I suggest the actions this week have further reinforced that.

Tris Amigo, I am not a hater at all. Just this week, James Clapper, President Obama's Director of National Intelligence testified before Congress that in all his over 50 years experience in intelligence matters he has never seen the threat to the U S as bad as it is today. I hope you either heard or read his assessment. I suggest he is a highly reliable and accurate source of information.

Tris Amigo, Who is blaming anything on Hillary??? I was commenting on James Clapper's testimony regarding his views on the threats to our nation at the current time. Full disclosure: My favorite candidate for president was former Democratic Senator James Webb, but he left the race early. I met him many years ago when we were both much younger men serving in the Marine Corps. We briefly discussed what we we going to do when we left active duty. I do however agree with the comments of Ginny in this discussion.

Blaming HRC for the terrorism threat we face today is the same as blaming Obama for the recession (that started before he was elected). Terrorism, unfortunately, will always be a threat. If nullifying the threat was so easy, don't you think some nation around the world would have done it by now?

Just checkout the truth meters of all candidates and aim for someone that tells the truth as much as possible in a national election.

It is widely acknowledged that Hillary used private investigators to discredit those women who accused her husband of rape, sexual assault or infidelity in the 1990s.

Hillary Clinton, the so called feminist except when it come to her husband’s egregious sexual misconduct, iniquitously threatened her husband’s female accusers on the nationwide broadcast of the Today Show in an interview with Matt Lauer on January 27, 1998 just the days after the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke.

Hillary said “I think we’re going to find some other things. And I think that when all of this is put into context, and we really look at the people involved here, look at their motivations and look at their backgrounds, look at their past behavior, some folks are going to have a lot to answer for.”

Now that is what I call a real protector of women’s rights! Hillary’s mindset was and is “You accuse my husband and I will destroy you! It does not matter one whit whether your accusations are true. I will not let any women get in the way of my future ambitions to be the first woman President of the United States. Feminism be damned. I am all that matters!”

Then on February 8, `998 former high level Clinton White House Aide George Stephanopoulos said on the ABC News Sunday morning talk show “This Week” that the Clinton administration was threatening to go “scorched earth” on Clinton’s female accusers by employing the ‘Ellen Rometsch strategy’ should they not back down.

On this show Sam Donaldson said ” “We know what the White House tactics are. I mean they have been almost open about it. Attack the press, and perhaps with good reason, attack the independent counsel, perhaps for some good reason, and stonewall on the central issue, which is the President of the United States. If he has nothing to hide, why is he hiding?”

George Stephanopoulos’ responded with “I agree with that. There’s a different, long-term strategy, which I think would be far more explosive. White House allies are already starting to whisper about what I’ll call the Ellen Rometsch strategy.”

The ‘Ellen Rometsch strategy’ involves blackmailing into silence Clinton female accusers by threatening to expose their backgrounds if they did not back off.

During and after the Lewinsky investigation that led to Bill Clinton’s impeachment for perjury and obstruction of justice, numerous women accusers were publicly or privately persecuted by Hillary Clinton. So much for her being an advocate for women’s rights. She protected an alleged rapist and a proven adultery numerous times at the expense of her husband’s female victims.

Goodgawdalmighty, the koolaid...

- "Hillary is polled with high negatives"

25 years of right wing echo chamber attacks; yes, that will influence a lot of low information voters

- "Polls indicate that she can't win against any Republican in November"

You really need to pick up a newspaper; both Hillary and Sanders will beat Trump

- "Hillary should step aside for the good of the Democratic party"

A classic Concern Trolling that has going on for years from rightie posters. Go back in this very website and find multiple Concern Trolls claiming that Obama couldn't win re-election and he should step aside for Hillary. How'd that work out?

Here's a 2012 thread with two examples of such absurd concern trolling: Republican delegate Hank (telling us to drop Obama and run Hillary! Jul 27, 2012 at 10:53 am) and an anon (Jul 28, 2012 at 1:46 pm,) concern trolling just for the good of the Dems sake! Web Link )

Your links both point to Clapper's DHS Assessment, not actual 'under oath' testimony.

TrisAmigos comments about the 2015 report echoing the 2014 and 2013 reports seem appropriate. Also the artful interpretation of every DHS assessment: "please keep shoveling money into DHS."

The open question let unanswered: does anyone trust Clapper after his lying to congress?

Nope.

So using Clapper/DHS as a rational for Hillary Hate is dubious, though expected.

Whom do I trust? Great way to deviate from the discussion! (for the record, I probably trust Sanders more than any of the other candidates, but that's a pretty low bar to begin with!)

Reading above; first there are posters who claim Hillary has done nothing for women - and Tris offered the Hillary Doctrine as simple evidence to refute that ridiculous claim.

It then morphed into some version of: "golly, the Hillary Doctrine hasn't given us Whirled Peas! Her doctrine sux!"

And you offered Clapper's 'testimony' (actually just the Annual Fear Report to justify the bloated DHS budget) that you claimed proves that the Hillary Doctrine was a failure at achieving World Peace.

Talk about moving the goal posts! From Women's Rights around the world, to World Peace, and now to "all politicians lie".

That durn Hillary sure is awful!!!!!

Pick a topic, make a claim, and offer evidence. Or keep meandering from point to point, grabbing at another straw as the previous point is debunked.

Being, you know, a typical internet 'conversation'.

But you get points for categorizing Clapper's blatant lies to congress and the American people as simply "issues".

Well played, suh! The Beltway Bandits, the political elite class, the talking heads, the K Street thieves - they all appreciate your support!

Lying to Americans & congress is now referred to as "Issues"?

Yup, all Hillary's fault.

Multi-story Farcical,
If you are backing a candidate who has negatives among the American public as high as Mrs. Clinton has, then it is you, my friend, who has the problem. My favorite candidate, Jim Webb, left the race. The remaining candidates, in my opinion, are deeply flawed. We, as a nation, deserve better. But rather than discussing issues such as of our economy with its stagnant growth, our monstrous and growing national debt, the failed foreign policies of both the Bush and Obama administrations, the candidates avoid the substantive and put forth no concrete policies and proposals for debate.

@Ginny: comparing Hillary and Trump is quite the stretch. It wasn't Hillary's campaign manager that was arrested today for battery on a female reporter. Web Link

@JB: I never claimed to be supporting Hillary. In the instances above I merely posted facts that dispute the Fox Koolaid posted by others.

Jim Webb was a moderate republican that would never go anywhere. When he left the Reagan administration and registered as a dem (albeit a hawk-ish right-leaning 'moderate') he effectively ended any chance of national participation. It's like bemoaning what happened to 2000-era McCain or 2008 Huntsman - just mental mas... eh, you get it.

In the same vein, moaning about debt and the Bush recession is about the same mental exercise. Oddly, you appear to detest the Clintons (the only president who has balanced a budget and left a surplus) and Obama (who inherited a trillion dollar deficit from Bush and cut it by over half, along with 7 years of job growth.) Web Link

That's the part I truly do not understand - Americans who claim to care about the correct things, but are blinded by Fox etc.. into not seeing the facts: Clinton was a great president economically (several major flaws of course) and what Obama has done to save us from the Bush recession. Good lord - we were losing millions of jobs per quarter when Bush left! When you compare Obama and Clinton to Bush , why would anyone ever consider the GOP?!?!?

Multi story,
I would love to meet you for a cup of coffee and have a lengthy face to face discussion re these issues. Yes, in many way Bill Clinton was an excellent president. One of the main reason was he knew how to "work across the aisle" to get things done. The deal he struck with the Republicans on the budget and welfare was genius. It contained a reduction in the capital gains tax that help spur economic growth in the late 1990's, led to balancing the budget and creating the surplus that the Bush administration wasted because of being afraid to veto spending bills. But he also recklessly sent cruise missiles that destroyed an aspirin factory rather than the terrorists he hoped to kill. He failed to react to the bombing of our embassies in Africa and failed to respond to the attack on the USS Cole.
As to your assertion that I hate the Clintons, I do not Hate anyone. I might disagree with their position on issues, but I hate no one. Though I must say for her to decry Wall Street while taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from them for speeches and then refusing to release the transcripts of those speeches sounds pretty hypocritical to me. Let me know if you would like to get together for that cup of coffee.
For you to tout the Obama administration's actions on the economy is really wrong. Look at our GDP growth rate. It is dismal. Rather than growing at the historical rate of 3.5-4.0% it is barely growing at 2% and Q1 2016 may actually be below that. Look at the LPR (Labor Participation Rate). It is the lowest since this was first calculated in 1978. U6 the REAL unemployment rate is still well above 10% The National Debt has risen more under the Obama Administration then under any other administration in our nation's history, even George Bush, who I consider to be a spendthrift. Like I said I would enjoy getting together with you over a cup of coffee, my treat, and further discuss these issues.

JB: thanks for the offer, that's awfully gracious of you. Unfortunately I will have to decline the opportunity for some great discussion.

It would be interesting because I believe what we each use as a "factual basis" would be up for much discussion:

- Clinton never should have cut cap gains; trickle down is a terrible fallacy used to argue for tax cuts that predominately favor the ultra wealthy (tax capital, not labor)

- the argument that Clinton wasn't keeping us safe is weak (the FBI got the Cole guys; Bush had more embassy attacks on his watch than Clinton, etc..)

- which republicans release their transcripts to all their speeches?

- yeah, Clinton okay'd the strike against a factory by mistake; shall we list the countries that Clinton invaded under false pretenses? And how many troops he got killed for almost no fathomable reason - how does that match to Bush's 5,000 in Iraq?

- "Look at our GDP growth rate. It is dismal." No. Coming out of the Bush disaster, it's recovery. It should be stronger - fo that you cannot balme Obama, but the GOP House. What have they done to grow jobs or the economy? Zip.
Web Link

- "The National Debt has risen more under the Obama Administration" Obama has cut Bush's trillion dollar deficit by 60+%.

- Bush's trillion dollar deficit came not because he never veto's a spending bill, they were created by the Bush tax cuts

Web Link

by 2019, 3/4 of the deficit will be from those Bush tax cuts, not his spending, even the 2 trillion on his wars

Web Link

Bush's tax cuts COMPLETELY benefited the uber wealthy:
- 30% of the cut went to the top 1%
- 70% of the cut went to the top 20%
- 30% of the cut went to the bottom 80%

30% of the tax cut went to the top 1%, 70% to us in the top 20%, and our kids and grandkids will pay for it. It's all debt, those gifts to billionaires. Bush is the only president to cut taxes at a time of war.

Indefensible.

I dislike spelling errors; crokked should be crooked.

Ginny defends Trump and his buddy who assualted a reporter from Breitbart.

Bruises and video aren't enough for them as evidence. All the reporter wanted eas an apology- then the trumpies smeared her, do she filed.

And Breitbart dropped her so they could stay in the Trump inner circle.

Disgraceful.

If Ginnys friend was a victim of abuse, had video and bruises, would Ginny be yelling at the cops who arrested the batterer?

Yup.

Multi Story,
I am sorry you turned down my invitation, but that is your prerogative. I think we both could have learned something.
