Saturday: Public invited to tour recycling center

Encinal fifth-grader will show her winning 'Trash to Art' entry

The public is invited to tour the recycling operation at the Shoreway Environment Center in San Carlos on Earth Day, Saturday, April 23.

There will also be a compost giveaway, art activities, information booths, a raffle and prizes at this free "Earth Day@Shoreway" event, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 333 Shoreway Road.

The event is hosted by RethinkWaste (the South Bayside Waste Management Authority), Recology San Mateo County and South Bay Recycling.

On display will be the winning entries in the Rethink Watste's "Trash to Art" contest, including the entry from Encinal School fifth-grader Ella Cassidy. She won third place and a $100 gift card for her work, "Water Pollution." The contest is open to third- to sixth-graders in the service area of RethinkWaste.
