New M-A High club focuses on STEM careers for students, vets

Menlo-Atherton High School has a new club: the Leo Club, associated with Lions Clubs International. It was founded by Elise Kratzer, now the club president, with the assistance of the Peninsula Veterans Lions Club.

The club is dedicated to helping military veterans and students interested in careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). It celebrated receiving its charter at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Redwood City on May 21, Elise said in an email.

The club has 22 members, all M-A students, most of whom are freshmen and sophomore girls, Elise said. "Boys and girls are all welcome, we just find that girls are generally more interested," she said.
