Menlo Park office manager sentenced to prison for embezzlement

In an embezzlement case involving over $1 million, a San Mateo County judge on Wednesday, June 8, sentenced San Mateo resident Shannon Marie Cardenas, a former office manager for Creekside Landscaping Inc. in Menlo Park, to seven years and eight months in state prison, prosecutors said.

In April, Ms. Cardenas, 40, pleaded no contest to one count of identity theft and one count of felony embezzlement, prosecutors said.

Her sentence includes payment of fines and fees and restitution of $728,888 to the landscaping company. Ms. Cardenas has been in county jail on a bail of $500,000. She received 644 days credit for time already served.

The case involved months of investigation by detectives from the Menlo Park Police Department following Ms. Cardenas departure from the landscaping company in March 2015 after working there for two years, police said.

Her embezzlement activities included writing fraudulent company checks to herself for overtime and bonuses and using company credit cards to pay for trips, vehicles and other expenses, prosecutors said.

how does this person have 644 days of credits ? If she resigned in 2015 & we are in the middle of 2016 - My math says she is still owing time

It is my understanding that an imprisoned person receives one extra day of credit for every day served with acceptable conduct.
