Classic cars, Oculus virtual reality demonstrations, street dining, an inflatable slide and live music are planned for Menlo Park's downtown block party from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, along Santa Cruz Avenue.
Hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, the event will close Santa Cruz Avenue between University Drive and Johnston Lane near El Camino Real, but vehicles will still be able to use University Drive and Menlo Avenue, according to Chamber President Fran Dehn.
The Menlo Park Library will kick off its series of centennial celebrations with a number of child-friendly performances and activities at the freshly installed paseo on Chestnut Street (see cover story). Other children's activities will include demonstrations by Z-Ultimate and Kuk Sool Won (both self-defense studios), the Menlo Park Academy of Dance and a Menlo-Atherton robotics group.
As in years past, the event will kick off the Menlo Park summer concert series, during which free outdoor music will be performed in Fremont Park, located at Santa Cruz Avenue and University Drive, on Wednesday nights.
The Summer Kings, a Beatles tribute band, will perform at the first concert June 15 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. There will also be other street performers spread out along Santa Cruz Avenue.
Restaurants such as Left Bank, Bistro Vida, Galata and Amici's will have outdoor street dining, she said.
