After an 8-0 start to the season in non-league play, the Menlo Park Legends are finding California Collegiate League play to be more of a test.
The Legends dropped a 5-2 decision Friday in a road contest against the Santa Barbara Foresters.
Menlo Park (9-3, 1-3) scored a run in the top of the first. But the Foresters came back with a run in the bottom half, took the lead with a run in the third and added two in the fifth off Menlo Park starter Ivan Garcia.
First baseman Ryan McCarthy led the Legends with two hits. Sean Watkins and Nick Brooks knocked in the two runs.
Elsewhere, Maverick Handley, a Stanford commit, doubled twice and drove in a pair of runs to lead the PUF Caps past the West Coast Kings, 14-7, on Friday.
Nicholas Qunitana and Alejandro Lara each added a pair of RBI. Sacred Heart Prep grad Andrew Daschbach also drove in a run.
The Palo Alto Oaks opened their season qith an 8-6 victory over the host San Mateo Rounders on Friday.
Robert Garcia homered and drove in four runs and Jason Lock added a pair of RBI for the Oaks, who host Bercovich Gold at Baylands Park both Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m.
