The Menlo Park nonprofit Art in Action, which provides in-school visual-art education to more than 220 elementary and middle schools, has established the Judy Sleeth Scholarship Fund, which will allow the organization to accept applications from schools new to the program.
Elementary and middle schools that are designated Title 1 or are able to demonstrate financial need are encouraged to apply online by Aug. 15.
The fund will help provide schools in the program with with art training, curriculum, materials and sustainability planning.
Sleeth, Art in Action's founder, "believed that an arts education is fundamental to the development of creativity, critical thinking, self-expression and cultural awareness," according to a press release. She founded the nonprofit in 1982, after being dismayed to discover her child's public kindergarten class offered no art program. The fund honors her commitment to providing art-education access to all.
Information on eligibility requirements, benefits, and an application link are available at Art in Action's website.
