Paye's Undisputed TNT clinches highest finish in 13 years

 

Paye's Undisputed TNT beat the Kingsport Krushers, 68-66, to advance into the 5th-place contest at the AAU National Championships against the Truth -- Silver of Illinois.

No matter what happens against The Truth, Paye's clinched its best finish over the last 13 years.

Paye's opened the day with a 56-46 setback to the Tennessee Rush in the quarterfinal of the championship bracket.

In the Zone Platinum of Massachusetts knocked the Krushers out of the championship bracket and then lost to the Rush in the semifinal.

The Rush meets the Indiana Lady Impact for the overall title.

Paye's Place and The Truth are scheduled to meet at the MeadowView Convention Center in Kingsport.

Diving

Palo Alto's Reed Merritt won the boys' 16-18 3-meter diving event at the USA Diving National Zone E championships in Salt Lake City on Thursday.

The victory clinches a spot in the quarterfinals of the AT&T USA Diving national championships, which take place August 1-14 in Moultrie, Ga.

Stanford Diving's Kevin Pomeroy and Trevor Labuda also qualified with a top five finish.

Menlo Park resident Claire Greenlow won the senior 1-meter competition and placed second in the 16-18 girls 1-meter, an event dominated by Stanford Diving.

The top seven finishers are with Stanford and 10 of the top 18.

Kathleen Navas won the event. Menlo-Atherton's Mia Paulsen finished third, followed by Palo Alto's Mimi Lin. Gunn's Marisa Agarwal placed sixth.

Stanford Diving's Lauren Okamoto won both the 14-15 girls 1-meter and 3-meter events. Audrey Chiun place third in 3-meter.

In the junior events, divers who place in the top three at zones will qualify directly to the semifinals for that event at the national championships.

Divers who place 4-8 on platform and 4-10 on springboard in the junior events at zones will qualify for the preliminaries in that event at nationals.

In open (senior) events at the zone meets, the top five divers will qualify to the quarterfinals at nationals in that event.
