TheatreWorks offers summer camp

Teens interested in a college education or professional career in theater are invited to register for TheatreWorks summer camp program, where teens work with professional playwrights, actors and directors.

The TheatreWorks Summer Studio program for eighth- through 12th-graders will be held Monday through Friday from July 18 through Aug. 12 at TheatreWorks facilities in Redwood City and Palo Alto.

The hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with free extended care available from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The students will write, stage and perform an original work, while taking workshops in audition technique, costume design and directing.

For the first three weeks, the program will be held at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley located at 350 Twin Dolphin Drive in Redwood City. The program will meet at the Lucie Stern Theatre at 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto for the last week to rehearse the play.

There will be two public performances of the final production on Aug. 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. at Lucie Stern Theatre.

Registration will be open until the first day of camp on July 18. The tuition is $1,500 and need-based scholarships are available.
