Chaos and excitement reign at Harry Potter midnight party

Midnight madness over the latest volume related to the Harry Potter saga reigned on July 30 during a book release party held at Kepler's Books.

"The rush for books at midnight was chaos," said Almanac photographer Brenten Brandenburg, who was at the event.

At least 500 people attended the event, said Praveen Madan, community engagement officer at Kepler's.

Activities included hand painting, "quidditch" tossing games, coloring and Harry Potter-themed non-alcoholic drinks.

The book contains the script of a play written by Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, set 19 years after the original series ends.

Editor's Note: A previous version of this story inaccurately estimated the number of attendees to be around 300.
