Atherton: It's a good weekend to leave your car at home

Two fund raising runs scheduled Saturday and Sunday mornings

This may be a good weekend to leave your car at home in Atherton, at least on Saturday and Sunday when two fund-raising "fun runs" will be held on the town's streets.

Atherton police say about 500 runners are expected for each event, with volunteers and police officers helping to keep them safe along the route.

On Saturday, Sept. 17, a run to benefit the Las Lomitas Education Foundation begins at 8:30 a.m. at Las Lomitas School, 299 Alameda de las Pulgas. The road will be closed along the race route from approximately 8:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

The Atherton Police Department says the race course is:

• eastbound on Camino Al Lago from Las Lomitas School

• eastbound on Park Lane from Camino Al Lago to Elena Avenue

• northbound on Elena Avenue

• eastbound on Elena Avenue to Isabella Avenue

• eastbound on Isabella Avenue

• southbound on Britton Avenue

• southbound on Emilie Avenue

• westbound on Park Lane to Camino Al Lago

• westbound on Camino Al Lago and return to Las Lomitas School

The road will be closed along the race route from approximately 8:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Valp Fun Run

On Sunday, Sept. 18, the fourth Annual Valpo Fun Run, sponsored by Sacred Heart Prep and Menlo School, with proceeds going to the Peninsula Bridge program, starts at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart School, 150 Valparaiso Ave. in Atherton. The road will be closed along the race route from approximately 8:55 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Atherton police say the race course is:

• northbound on Elena Avenue from Sacred Heart School

• eastbound on Elena Avenue to Isabella Avenue

• eastbound on Isabella Avenue

• southbound on Britton Avenue

• eastbound on Alejandra Avenue

• southbound on the property of Menlo College and Menlo School

• westbound on Valparaiso Avenue from Menlo School

• northbound on Emilie Avenue

• westbound on Park Lane returning to Sacred Heart School
