Veteran educator Lynette Hovland will be the next principal of Ormondale Elementary School in Portola Valley.
Ormondale is the Portola Valley School District's transitional kindergarten through third grade school.
The district's governing board approved Ms. Hovland's appointment at its Sept. 28 board meeting. She will be paid a base salary of $135,479 a year.
In June the district announced that former Ormondale principal, Kevin Keegan, had taken a job with the Santa Clara School District near his home in Santa Clara.
Ms. Hovland, a resident of San Mateo, spent five years as an elementary school principal and nine years as a middle school principal, before taking on several positions in the district office of the San Carlos School District.
Most recently she worked for the San Carlos Charter Learning Center as a consultant and director of learner services and special education, according to her LinkedIn page
The district's acting superintendent, Eric Hartwig, said Ms. Hovland was the perfect fit for the district. She has experience as a teacher and principal at both the elementary and middle school levels, and is "a hands-on leader who we feel will leverage the energy and talent of the staff," he said.
Mr. Hartwig said he was "impressed with her analytical skills and her ability to communicate her conclusions to parents and teachers. Since Ormondale is a one-administrator school, I also felt that Lynette's broad experience in school policy and management would be a huge asset to the school," he said.
In a Sept. 28 statement from the district, Mr. Hartwig said Ms. Hovland is "very versed in curriculum and instruction and has a welcoming and confident manner. I think she will relate well with staff, with parents and the community, and most importantly, with 'the little ones.'"
She is scheduled to start Oct. 6 and will work with acting principal Sue Sartor until Ms. Sartor's departure some time in mid-October.
"This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Ormondale School, and I know you will join me in welcoming Lynette into the Ormondale and PVSD family," Mr. Hartwig said.
