The annual celebration of Woodside’s equestrian heritage, the Day of the Horse, begins at 9:45 a.m Saturday, Oct. 8, with the first of three “Blessing of the Horse” ceremonies on the grounds of the Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County at 521 Kings Mountain Road in Woodside.

The other two blessings take place at 2:45 and 3:30 p.m., also at the Mounted Patrol grounds, according to a schedule of the day’s events published by the Woodside-area Horse Owners Association.

A “horse fair” opens at 10 a.m. at Town Hall at 2955 Woodside Road, runs until 2:30 p.m. and includes tables of information, educational exhibits, activities, outfitters and gifts.

A trail ride begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. Stage coach rides leave from Town Hall beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The day has several sponsors, including the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California at Davis, The Village Pub, Wells Fargo bank and Until There’s a Cure. Sponsors will have exhibits at the Mounted Patrol ground from 12:15 to 3:45 p.m.

Prizes will be distributed from 1 to 4 p.m. on the Mounted Patrol grounds.
