Canada College wins $4.3 million grant to assist in STEM education

The U. S. Department of Education awarded a grant of $4.3 million to Canada Community College in Woodside on Oct. 18 to support Hispanic students pursuing careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

In a statement, the college said the grant will help improve academic achievement in fundamental math courses for under-represented students, raise awareness of STEM-based careers, and strengthen relationships with four-year universities and companies to increase student professional development opportunities.

It's the second federal grant for Canada this fall. In September, the Education Department awarded the school $3.2 million to improve college transfer and completion rates for Hispanic students and other high-need students.
