Menlo-Atherton not only made the Central Coast Section Open Division I playoffs but received the No. 1 seed Sunday at the CCS seeding meeting.
Menlo-Atherton (8-2) will host No. 8 Wilcox (5-5) Friday at 7 p.m.
"For the kids it's nice to be rewarded for having a good season," M-A coach Adhir Ravipati said. "But all those good feelings will last about an hour. Wilcox is a real good team. They beat Milpitas and gave Los Gatos a good game. They run the veer very well, are a little bit different than what we're used to seeing. We've got our work cut out for us in practice to be disciplined on our assignments."
Menlo-Atherton got the No. 1 seed after a coin flip with San Benito. The Bears have won eight in a row since starting the season 0-2.
"We've come a long way,'' Ravipati said. "But we still haven't reached our potential as a program.''
Palo Alto (4-6) received the No. 7 seed in Open Division II and will play at No. 2 seed Los Gatos (7-3), Friday at 7 p.m. Palo Alto lost to Los Gatos 35-6 on Oct. 21.
Menlo School (9-1) received the No. 3 seed in Division V and will host The King's Academy (7-3) on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Menlo defeated TKA once already this season, 31-21 on Oct. 7.
Sacred Heart Prep (2-8) received the No. 8 seed in Division V and will play at No. 1 Carmel (10-0) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
