The 11-story hotel that is part of the Bohannon Development Corp.'s "Menlo Gateway" project has officially been christened "Hotel Nia."
The building, located at the corner of Independence Drive and Chrysler Drive in eastern Menlo Park, is scheduled to have its highest beam laid by the end of March, and is expected to open in January 2018.
According to Brian Ehrlich of Ensemble Real Estate Investments, "As you drive down the Peninsula ... you really sort of hit Silicon Valley when you hit Menlo Park."
He says his investment company is hoping the development, when the hotel and offices are completed, will signal from U.S. 101 the "epicenter of probably the most significant industry that we have in California, and probably the world, with the most cutting-edge technologies being introduced here."
The hotel will be part of Marriott's "Autograph Collection," and will have 250 rooms, including 43 suites, indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, and, accessible to the public, a coastal Mediterranean restaurant, a cafe/ice cream bar and a cocktail bar.
The hotel will be managed by Sage Hospitality. The hotel is owned and developed by a joint venture of AECOM Capital and Ensemble Real Estate Investments with construction financing provided by ACORE Capital.

Eleven stories on the baylands. What is the environmental impact on the cooling bay breezes? How do these large buildings impact our peninsula climate? No building is worth the change on our local climate.

Like it or not, the last beam goes in today.... so the time to call it a "travesty" and time to look at the impact, came and went. Further concerns can be addressed by looking at what is proposed in MP @ Web Link Drive your concerns through the open forum and discussion. I am certain every commercial builder will tell you they were required to make changes based on public input and council requirements.

Airbnb: complain complain.
Rosewood: grumble grumble (until it's built)
Boutique hotel on El Camino at Garwood: Too commercial and expensive!
New hotel to service the huge lack of rooms in the area, developed as part of a voter-approved development on the 'non-residential' side of town that is a bunch of dead warehouses? The carping never stops!

So pleased to see this new hotel. The local glorified motels along ECR are charging outrageous rates midweek. Hopefully this will level the playing field a little.
The challenge will be to find suitably qualified staff to work at this hotel. Wouldn't it be great if such a building provided some kind of accommodation for its workers ... (perhaps like those on a Cruise Ship).
Cheers !
PS. Pearl we miss you ..

They, and all the service sector, can find a lot more candidates if they would pay a a living wage. They don't, so they hide behind the old "not enough workers" canard.
