Dorian Aberouette placed second in the heptathlon at the Golden State Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships on Friday at Westmont College, and the men’s and women’s teams both had a number of standout performances.
In total, 10 different competitors finished in the top three of their respective events which earned them All-Conference honors. The men’s team placed 5th overall with the women notching a seventh place team finish.
In the men’s jumps, Jonnythan Munkholm continued to prove he is an elite competitor in the triple jump. Having already qualified for nationals in the event, Munkholm added another feather in his cap in the form of a GSAC championship in the event with a jump of 46-4.25.
Teammate Elijah Redding-Moment finished third in the event with a leap of 43-10.75. Luiz Lodino also added points to the team total with a seventh place finish. In addition to his win in the triple jump, Munkholm brought home fourth place in the high jump at 6-2.75.
In the throws it was Hector Salas-Selem who had a career day. He began the day with a second place finish in the hammer throw (134.0) then hit a PR in the shotput (43-9.25), good for fourth place. Joe Alvarez also had a great day, finishing third in the hammer throw (131-1) and sixth in the shotput with a personal best 42-0.5. Bryce Howard earned team points in both events, placing seventh in the hammer throw and the shot put.
The final group of All-GSAC competitors on the men’s side was the 4×400 team of Porter Hansen, Jonnythan Munkholm, Isaiah Grady and Elijah Redding-Moment with a time of 3:25.54.
On the women’s side, the Oaks dominated the Heptathlon with Aberouette placing second with 3791 points and Aubrie Usui close behind in third with 3301 points. The scores were personal bests for both Oaks.
Other scoring performances from Menlo competitors included Megan Thompson who placed fifth in the 800 with a personal best of 2:18.44 and Porter Hansen who finished sixth in the 200 at 22.97.
Gunn grad Janae Pennywell finished 12th overall in the 200 and 13th overall in the 100 for the Oaks.
