Coroner identifies Menlo Park man who died after being hit by train in Atherton on Monday

The San Mateo County Coroner's office has identified Kirtee Kapoor, 46, of Menlo Park as the man who died after being struck by a train near the Watkins Avenue train crossing in Atherton on Monday morning.

The coroner's office said the cause of death is under investigation and it will release its conclusion when the case is closed, which may take a couple of weeks.

Mr. Kapoor was an attorney and partner in the Menlo Park office of the Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP law firm. According to LinkedIn, he attended the University of Oxford, the New York University School of Law and Delhi University, where he was valedictorian.

According to a statement by Davis Polk & Wardwell, Mr. Kapoor was born in Bangalore, India, and joined the law firm's New York office as an associate in 1999.

He became a partner at the firm in 2007 and spent time in several of the firm's offices, including Hong Kong. He joined the firm's Menlo Park office in 2015.

He is survived by his wife and daughter, according to the statement.
