Menlo School girls beat Pinewood in WBAL tennis match


Freshman Lindsey Ball took over at No. 1 singles to rave reviews as Menlo School swept host Pinewood, 7-0, in a West Bay Athletic League Foothill Division match Tuesday.

Ball downed Julia Owens, 6-2, 6-0, to highlight the victory as the four singles players dropped a total of three games. Elika Eshghi and Kathryn Wilson won their matches, 6-0, 6-0 and Vivian Liu, 6-0, 6-1.

The doubles teams of Lauren Creamer and Penelope Penfold-Patterson and Grace McDonald Elizsabeth Westermann also won 6-0, 6-0, while Vida Safari and Vionna Eshghi won their match, 6-4, 6-2.

Menlo has won 243 consecutive regular-season league matches, an on-going state record.

Menlo (10-6, 5-0) hosts Crystal Springs Uplands at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Pinewood (1-10, 0-6) hosts Sacred Heart Prep and Castilleja hosts Harker, also at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
