Menlo Park: Cultural exchange opportunity for teens

Kids ages 12 to 15 who live in Menlo Park are invited to apply for one of 10 spots to participate in a cultural exchange trip to Bizen, Japan, a Friendship City of Menlo Park. The trip is scheduled for late July or early August of this year and would give students the opportunity to tour the city and experience its culture and heritage.

In 2016, the trip offered students the chance to see thousand-year-old Bizen-yaki pottery; visit the country's first public school, from the 17th century; participate in a Japanese tea ceremony; and attend classes in origami and cooking. Food and lodging is provided; airfare must be purchased by the participant.

To apply, submit a one-page written essay (single-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins) on the city website.

The deadline to apply is March 15.
