These reports are from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and the Menlo Park Police Department. Under the law, people charged with offenses are considered innocent unless convicted. Police received the reports on the dates shown.

MENLO PARK

Fraud:

• Someone accessed the bank account of a resident of the 1300 block of Santa Cruz Avenue and, over a four-month period, made unauthorized withdrawals of about $57,000. March 13.

• A thief made two unauthorized transfers of money into two bank accounts from the bank account of a resident of Sand Hill Circle. Estimated loss: $9,000. March 11.

• A resident of San Antonio Street told police of a scam perpetrated on her during a transaction in which she was in contact online with a rental agency to arrange a home rental. A man called her and instructed her to deposit $2,500 into a bank account, after which a courier would deliver her the keys to the home. She made the deposit, but stopped cooperating when the man requested a deposit of another $1,000, police said. She called to request a refund, but has not yet heard back. March 8.

• A resident of Roble Avenue, upon receiving “returned items” in the mail, discovered that someone had been using his former street address, his email address, a shortened version of his name and his eBay account name to sell counterfeit DVDs on Ebay. No losses. March 9.

Residential burglary: A resident of Van Buren Road told police that someone had entered her apartment while she was away and rummaged through it. Nothing was taken, but things had been moved around, she told police. March 10.

Auto burglary: Someone smashed a window on a vehicle parked on O’Brien Drive and rummaged through the contents, taking nothing. March 14.

Thefts:

• Police arrested and booked a Menlo Park man on suspicion of grand theft, theft from an elderly person and conspiracy to commit a crime. Police suspect the man of having cashed fraudulent checks adding up to about $2,550 from the account of a 97-year-old woman living on Sevier Avenue. March 10.

• Someone stole a bike locked to a bike rack in the 700 block of Santa Cruz Avenue. Estimated loss: $750. March 9.

• A thief stole a bike locked to a bike rack on Elder Avenue. Estimated loss: $700. March 14.

• Two men entered the Beverages and More liquor store at 700 El Camino Real and walked out with six unpaid for bottles of champagne. Police are looking for two black men in their late 20s to early 30s who left the scene in a black Kia Optima. One of the men was wearing black shoes, blue jeans, a dark blue dress shirt and a black puffy jacket. The other wore brown shoes, blue jeans, a camouflage military button-up shirt and an olive-colored puffy jacket. March 12.

• Police arrested a 17-year-old teen on suspicion of having entered the unlocked vehicle of a Laurel Street resident and stealing a purse from the trunk. In the purse were business cards and facial make-up. Estimated loss: $110. March 10.

• A thief walked out of Trader Joe’s grocery store on Menlo Avenue with a drink and “a pack of beef” that had not been paid for. Police are looking for a white man in his early to mid 50s wearing a 49ers jersey, black pants, a white hat and a camouflage jacket. Estimated loss: $38. March 12.

WOODSIDE

Theft: Someone stole a wallet from a bag after the owner had stepped away from a desk in the 3100 block of Woodside Road. No estimate on losses. March 12.
