The superintendent of the Ravenswood City School District has proposed an internal shuffling of school leadership that will result in new principals at three schools next year.

Superintendent Gloria Hernandez-Goff announced last week her recommendations for new principals at Belle Haven Community School, Willow Oaks School and the district’s new Ravenswood Middle School. The appointments are subject to approval by the Board of Education.

“Focusing on our students, I have given careful thought to the administrative team to lead our schools to continuing improvement through challenging times,” Hernandez-Goff wrote. “In doing so, I want to make very clear that the future of our district only gets stronger and stronger by the day, and this team of principals is committed to our growth and success of our students.”

Hernandez-Goff is recommending Amanda Kemp, currently principal at Ronald McNair Academy, move to Belle Haven. Kemp is set to replace Principal Todd Gaviglio, whose recent mid-year transfer from Belle Haven to the district office has drawn protest from parents and teachers. Gaviglio has been reassigned to help the district with a federal program review.

After just one year at the helm of the district’s new comprehensive middle school, Hernandez-Goff is proposing Ravenswood Middle School Principal Doug Garris move to Willow Oaks, where he would replace Principal Cynthia Chin. The district has not said if Chin is moving to another position or leaving the district.

Ravenswood Middle School Vice Principal Annaben Kazemi would then become principal at the middle school.

In the superintendent’s announcement, she emphasized the appointments as critical to the future of the long-underperforming district, which Hernandez-Goff was tasked with turning around when she was hired five years ago.

“Change is never an easy process, but you have risen to the occasion because you understand that what is at stake is the future of the children of the Ravenswood City School District,” she wrote to staff.

  1. From all I have read about her, it is Gloria Hernandez-Goff that needs to be moved, out of the district and out of a job anywhere she can do more damage. And when she goes she can take her son, a nepotistic hire, with her. She has shown again and again that she can not handle the responsibilities of running a schools district, let alone one that has the problems that Ravenswood does. Anyone voting to renew her contract needs to be recalled and shown the door.

  2. I agree with Brian. Take control school board, reassign Gloria out of the district where no more damage can be done. Make a strong decision!!!

  3. I agree with the other postings. Gloria must leave before she makes any more trouble in our district. We are already in bad shape with all the suits that employees are going to bring for retaliation. She shall not be allowed to make any more harm. Board members shall remove her from her position right now and send her to work in a classroom as a teacher, teacher aide or helping to cross the street while her contract expires. What is it going to take for board members to see what a horrible job she is doing? They shall be recalled too, especially Ms. Willson who tells other board members what to do or how to vote. Ms. Gloria has bought all votes from Ms. Willson when at the request of Ms. Wilson, Gloria hired Glenda, Sharifa’s domestic partner, even though she did not have the proper credentials to work at the CDC. She scared the parents so much when she gave the wrong child to a wrong person, but Gloria did nothing to punish her. Now Gloria claims that Mr. Gaviglio did a mistake and she wants to fire him. Something is wrong here. Board Members PLEASE WAKE UP AND SEE WHO GLORIA AND HER HUSBAND REALLY ARE. I agree Gloria shall leave and take her son, granddaughter, and her abusive husband who was put in charge of the Second Harvest Food Bank by Gloria Hernandez.

  4. Now it is not just Belle Haven Employees, Teachers Association and Discriminated employees who are upset at Gloria, now also all Willow School Teachers and other employees are speaking up against Gloria’s acts of discrimination.
There is another article on Palo Alto on Line. It is almost the same, but it has more information about the discontent teachers at Willow. People are waking up, only Sharifa, Ana Pulido and Marcelino Lopez still in their own world or maybe they are just burying their head in the sand. Here is the link.

  5. Wow. I’m not sure what’s going on with this shuffle. Kazemi is a great pick for RMS. She really cares about the students and appreciates the workers. Goff has every right to remove principals, but we have every right to vote in board members who will change the superintendent. Also I am glad students at Belle Haven are protesting. They are a great passionate group of students.

  6. Time without a doubt that Ms. Fernandez-Goff’s contract is not renewed by the Ravenswood School Board. Five years is enough time & she has not been able to make substantial improvements in student test scores. She does not seem to have the respect of the vast majority of the district’s teachers.
If the RSB does not listen to the community, then it is time for the voters to act.

  7. Gloria has to go along with her son, husband, and the whole generation. Time to stop stealing funds from education to give to her family.
