Portola Valley: Residents asked to be on lookout for black sedan

Deputies with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office are asking residents of Portola Valley to be on the lookout for a "newer model" black sedan, possibly a Lexus or a Volkswagen, with paper license plates.

Anyone seeing a vehicle matching this description should call 911 or the Sheriff's Office at 650-363-4911, and "not take the law into your own hands," deputies said, noting that additional deputies are patrolling in Portola Valley.

The occupants of the car were "acting suspicious(ly)," according to an emailed alert from the county Office of Emergency Services today (Sept. 13). No further details were provided.

Residents are advised to lock their homes and keep valuables in a safe "when possible."
