Menlo Park police have arrested an 18-year-old San Francisco man in connection with several Sunday night auto burglaries in the vicinity of Sonoma Avenue and Bay Road in the Suburban Park-Lorelei Manor-Flood Park Triangle neighborhood.

The suspect, who is in jail on suspicion of felony vandalism and possession of stolen property, was one of two or three people wearing dark clothing and “responsible for the burglaries” as seen in surveillance videos, according to a statement from the Menlo Park Police Department.

Police crime logs for Sunday, Feb. 24, showed 12 overnight auto burglaries, including three in the Suburban Park-Lorelei Manor-Flood Park Triangle neighborhood: on Del Norte Avenue, on Hedge Road and on Oakwood Place. Items stolen included two backpacks, one of which had a laptop inside, and two packages.

An investigation revealed a connection between the burglaries and led to the arrest of a San Francisco man on Ivy Avenue at 7:32 a.m. Sunday on a vandalism charge. Police said that the man matched a description of one of the suspects seen in the videos, and that he was in possession of property stolen in the auto burglaries.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the burglaries to contact Sgt. Dennis Weber at 650-330-6337 or at dwweber@menlopark.org. The anonymous tip line is 650-330-6395.

Editor’s note: It is The Almanac’s policy to withhold the names of those arrested for most crimes until the District Attorney’s Office has determined that there is sufficient evidence to file charges in the case.
