The Portola Art Gallery in Menlo Park's Allied Arts Guild is showcasing the pastel and oil paintings of Mary K. Stahl in an exhibition titled "Local Color."
The exhibition will be open through the end of the month.
According to a press statement, Stahl's works are known for their calm and quiet atmosphere, and the artwork on display is inspired by the appearance of natural light on landscapes.
Stahl, a Palo Alto resident, has been a longstanding member of the local artistic education community. After she moved to the Bay Area in the 1970s, she taught art and craft classes to children at the Palo Alto Junior Museum and coordinated an art studio for students at Palo Alto's Fairview Elementary School. In addition, she's worked in the tech field at SRI International, the NASA Ames Research Center and Nominum, and as a technical writer, editor, and graphic and website designer.
A member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast, Stahl has shown her work at museums in Stockton, Santa Clara and Youngstown, Ohio.
The gallery is at 75 Arbor Road in Menlo Park; it's open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
