Alleged Safeway shoplifter who threatened employees arrested

Menlo Park police have arrested a 28-year-old man who allegedly threatened Safeway employees with a knife while shoplifting on Sunday night (Aug. 11).

The department received a call that someone was shoplifting around 11:30 p.m. at the Safeway at 525 El Camino Real in Menlo Park and had threatened employees with a knife before fleeing the grocery store, according to a press release from the department.

The police found the suspect running on foot in the 800 El Camino Real parking lot, which is located between BevMo! and Jeffrey's Hamburgers.

Officers found stolen property in his possession and a discarded knife in the area. The stolen property was returned, and the suspect was booked into San Mateo County Jail.
