Ella Woodhead scored all three of her goals in the first 11 minutes and Sacred Heart Prep topped visiting Arroyo Grande 10-6 in a nonleague girls water polo game Saturday.

Ashley Penner added two goals and three assists for the Gators (10-0), who hoist St. Ignatius in a West Catholic Athletic League match Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Sacred Heart Prep played Arroyo Grande (11-5) for the second time this season, beating the Eagles 7-5 at the St. Francis Invitational. The Gators are also entered the Arroyo Grande Invitational in two weeks.

Woodhead helped SHP open a 4-0 lead midway through the second quarter. The Gators eventually led 7-1 late in the third period.

Natalia Szczerba added two goals and Megan Newby recorded a goal and two assists. Margaret Brandin and Brienz Lang completed the scoring.

Goalie Paedrin Gillett made 17 saves and added an assist. She recorded a save percentage of .739. The Gators were 10 of 22 from the field, including 3-of-4 on power plays. Arroyo Grande was held scoreless in five power plays.

The Eagles beat host St. Francis 5-3 on Friday. The Lancers (4-5, 1-1) travel to play Mitty at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. St. Francis is also entered in the Arroyo Grande Invitational.

Menlo School finished fourth in its own Amanda MacDonald Invitational, dropping a 12-8 decision to Los Gatos in the third-place contest.

Miramonte beat Acalanes to win the title.

Menlo junior Erica Fenyo finished with 11 goals, two assists and three steals for the tournament. Freshman Vivian Golub had six goals while Scarlett Gamble, a sophomore, distributed seven assists, and Alina Hernandez, a senior, added five assists.

Sophomore Kenya Cassidy recorded nine steals and junior goalie Nyla Sharma finished with 23 saves. Junior Malia Chavinson had three goals, and two assists.

The Knights (4-5) resume WCAL play with a home game against Valley Christian on Wednesday.

Gunn won twice Saturday to place fifth. The Titans beat Archie Williams 11-6 after beating St. Ignatius 14-5 earlier in the day.

Nina Albers scored nine goals on the day, six against SI. Kenza Ashworth added five goals and six steals against the Wildcats and Jayden Kratt recorded 14 saves.

Siham Arsalane and Mia Knezevic each added three goals against Archie Williams and Kratt added 10 saves.

Palo Alto won twice Saturday to win the consolation title. The Vikings beat Woodside 9-4 and then nudged Mitty 6-4.

“Its a nice improvement from a young team,” Palo Alto coach Deke Rowell said. “We lost 11 seniors from last year.”

Rowell also said several Vikings turned in great play, including senior captain Julia Ragno, sophomore goalie Mary Henderson and juniors Sami Lee and Yasmin Friedrichowitz.

Paly beat Mitty for the first time in three games this season.

M-A beat Woodside 14-8 in the 11th place contest. The Wildcats surprised the Bears in a league game earlier in the week.

Greg Hilderbrand scored four goals but host Archie Williams (previously known as Sir Francis Drake) beat Menlo School 15-10 in a nonleague game Saturday.

Tommy Kiesling added three goals and Jackson Kay scored twice for the Knights(6-4), who play at Valley Christian in a West Catholic Athletic League match at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Jack Murad also scored.

Kiesling and Ethan Babel each had four assists and Kay made a career-best five steals. Goalies Finn Byrne and Cormac Mulloy each had two saves.

The Palo Alto boys water polo team placed second at the Santa Teresa Invitational.

The Vikings beat Oakdale 10-5 and James Logan 10-7 before losing to Northgate 11-9.

Julien Chow scored 11 goals for Paly and Jack Haney added seven. Eitan Green had 23 blocks.

Woodside won the boys title and Sacred Heart Prep won the girls title at Saturday’s Ram Invitational in Daly City.

Menlo was second in the boys race and junior Justin Pretre was the Knights’ top finisher, coming in third overall among 115 runners.

Pretre finished the 2.6-mile course in a time of 13:38. His brother, freshman Landon Pretre, was eighth in 14:10. Junior Aiden Deffner and senior Nik Khuntia were 17th (14:49) and 18th (14:50), respectively.

Woodside’s Ethan Brooks and Maximilian Hohendorf placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in 13:52 and 13:54.

Menlo finished with 83, eight points behind Woodside, and ahead of Scotts Valley, which had 119.

Lucy Paynter raced fourth and Julia Soderbery fifth for Sacred Heart Prep.

Woodside’s Elle Marsyla was second in the first varsity girls race. She was timed in 16:01.

The Mountain View boys finished third at the Clovis West Invitational Large School Division at Woodward Park in Fresno on Friday with 74 points. Clovis West won the meet with 64 points, followed by Clovis with 74.

Spartans senior Emmanuel Leblond was one of two runners to finish the 5,000-meter course in under 16 minutes, placing second in 15:56.61. Clovis’ Christopher Caudillo won the individual title in 15:23.73.

Senior Nicholas Trepanier finished 10th overall in 16:37.81, followed by junior Evan Markelz in 11th (16:38.64).

The Mountain View girls also placed third with 93 points. Sanger won the team title in a tiebreaker with Clovis East, each with 63 points.

Seniors Julia Gentin and Eliana Montgomery placed ninth and 10th, respectively, in 20:20.53 and 20:33.67.

Girls tennis

Menlo split four matches and finished seventh overall in the two-day Point Loma Invitational in San Diego.

The Knights (7-2) opened with a hard-fought win over the Palisades, and defeated Torrey Pines on a tiebreaker 47-45 games.

Menlo next plays Sacred Heart Prep on the road Tuesday.

Menlo sophomore Andra Braicu and senior Brynn Brady each picked up a pair of wins in singles. Junior Natalie Westermann had three victories in doubles, including two with senior C.C. Golub and another with Ellie Hardegree.
