Mike Moore, the principal of Hillview Middle School in Menlo Park for the past 23 years, announced today (March 16) that he plans to retire at the end of the school year.

Mr. Moore, who has been a teacher or administrator for the past 39 years, said he will stay with the Menlo Park City School District as a consultant for a year after he retires.

Hillview, the district’s only middle school, is embarking on a massive campus reconstruction project in order to accommodate a big jump in enrollment.

Mr. Moore told The Almanac that, when the school reconstruction bond originally passed, he had been looking forward to spending a year as the principal of a brand-new, renovated campus. However, the project took longer to get under way than he had anticipated, and he’d rather not retire in the midst of the construction, he said.

“For twenty-three years, Hillview, along with my family, has been my life,” he said in an e-mail sent out to the school community announcing his retirement.
