Police have arrested the supervisor of Menlo Park’s child development center in the Belle Haven neighborhood, after the man allegedly gave unwanted letters and presents to a minor.
Jose Adalberto Lopez, 55, of San Mateo, was arrested by Menlo Park police on Tuesday, April 13. Police were called to the child development center on Ivy Drive that afternoon after receiving information from city staff, according to Nicole Acker, spokeswoman for the police department.
Mr. Lopez was charged with annoying and harassing a minor, and was booked into San Mateo County jail that night, Ms. Acker said. She said the minor was 13 years old.
Mr. Lopez has been placed on administrative leave, “pending the results of an internal investigation currently in progress,” Glen Kramer, the city’s personnel director, wrote in a letter to parents of children at the center, dated April 14.
Mr. Kramer told parents that the city “does not believe that any current or former students in the program” are involved in the investigation.
Mr. Lopez began working with the city as a teacher in 2001, and was promoted in 2006 to his current position, according to Mr. Kramer.
I have know Jose for 2 years he is very cane with every one around hem all the kids love hem I think this is a miss understanding about what is being mention. for me is really sad because he was not only my son Teacher but he is also a good friend of my self I hope his name get clean soon and comes back to work. Hello, I believe that this matter is very serious and I think that any and all charges against the perpetrator should be taken seriously. Although he might have worked well with the children, that still doesn’t help the fact that he was soliciting a minor. With this, it would be a smart move to pursue the charges and seek justice against anyone, in this case Mr. Jose Lopez. PS anyone writing comments, please make sure you know how to spell before you do so. Case in point, HIM is spelled with an “I” and not an E.

@Michael Hawk: in my native Dutch we say: “Improve the world, start with yourself.” In case you had not noticed, Ms. Pulido, looking at her full name, is probably not a native English speaker and seems to be doing her darned best to write in defense of someone she strongly believes in. Whether we agree with her or not is not the point of my story, but I think kudos go to Ms. Pulido for writing here even though, I assume, she knows that her English is not flawless.

You and the rest of the parents at that school need to wake the hell up. This is not the first time these type of allegations have been placed on Mr. Lopez. He has you silly parents wrapped around his finger. How many of you parents are sleeping with Mr. Lopez? You parent disgust me, I can believe u would think him sending unwanted letters & non appropriate gifts as a misunderstanding!! WAKE UP!!!!!!!
Another newspaper today reported that the police failed to check with any of the students at the school to determine whether the problems extended beyond this one teenaged girl.
So, once again, we have a compelling reason why MP should NOT be in the child care business.
Another thing they failed to mention is that this is not the first time that this has happen with the city of menlo park. A few years back a man was arrested and charged with over 25 count of child molestation and sexual harrassment. Things are things that the city will try to cover up. This would not even be in the paper if it wasn’t for concerned parents and ex-employees from the city of menlo park who made sure the community knew about this situation. Mr. Lopez is a sick person who needs to be put away.
I agree i think this is a serious matter and we parents should open our eyes and not let this happen again.There are a lot of sex offenders around menlo park near our schools and i think we should start with Mr Lopez (IT IS NOT OKAY WHEN A 55 YEAR OLD MAN SENDS LETTERS AND GIFTS TO A MINOR)It needs to stop!
Another thing there is a four time sex offender by the name of darryl keith phillips,phillips conway and many many others so i say just be carful this people live close to the bellehaven school and child care and beechwood. The reason i put this out is becuase of case’s like Mr Lopez that we seem to ignore!
