Menlo Park Planning Commissioner Kirsten Keith pulled papers Monday (Aug. 9) to run for City Council. She has two days to become an official candidate by filing the papers with the city clerk. Ms. Keith was appointed to the commission in 2004.
So far three candidates have qualified to run: Mayor Rich Cline, Councilman Heyward Robinson, and community activist Chuck Bernstein.
Two other potential candidates are still waiting to file. Menlo Park Fire Protection District Board President Peter Ohtaki said he planned to turn in his papers today after fine-tuning his candidate statement over the weekend.
Local businessman Russell Peterson was weighing his interest in running for office against his opposition to high-speed rail, as he would likely be unable to vote on the project as a council member due to a conflict of interest.
Very interesting. Definitely want to hear her positions on the key issues, but she’s always struck me as a generally reasonable, moderate person. If she enters the race, it should at least recenter things a bit, although the ideologues on the fringes will always have more energy.
