Dennis Martin, an early owner of land that has become Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, built a church and cemetery there in the 1850s. The cemetery remains were removed to Holy Cross Cemetery in Menlo Park when planning began for the linear accelerator. A marker near the entrance to 3000 Sand Hill Road commemorates the cemetery.
