A 33-year-old East Palo Alto man was shot in the leg early Thursday morning (May 5) after two or more men carrying guns entered his home during a robbery, according to police.

East Palo Alto police officers responded to the 500 block of Sacramento Street off of University Avenue at 4:40 a.m. after the “Shotspotter” system indicated there was gunfire in front of a residence. Responding officers found evidence of a shooting and that a specific residence was involved.

Police discovered a Hispanic male resident suffering from the gunshot and learned that a robbery had occurred in the home.

A confrontation occurred between the trespassers and the resident, during which one of the alleged robbers shot the victim, a preliminary investigation found. The assailants had fled the area when officers arrived. The police department has not released descriptions of the attackers.

Anyone who might have witnessed or has any information regarding the robbery is encouraged to contact Detective “Nua” Lualemaga at 650-798-5952 or the East Palo Alto Police Anonymous Tip Line at 650-853-8477.
